Chose one of the following Ranch Experiences.....

Saddles and Paddles Escape from Routine

Package ID: CNEC2010-1

Take ten days away from your normal routine and explore Canada’s Wilderness in safety and comfort, with activities that will challenge you to try something new every day while you spend your nights in cozy comfort!

This wonderful vacation experience starts when you arrive in Saskatoon and check into the Hilton Garden Inn downtown. It’s time to unruffle your travelling feathers and relax over a great meal and maybe a scenic cruise on the river downtown with Shearwater River Cruises.

Tomorrow you have a bit of a drive along good highways through the parkland scenery of east central Saskatchewan to the Eastview Wilderness Ranch where true western hospitality will welcome you for dinner and a cozy bed in a fully-modern cabin.

Horseback Riding at Eastview Wilderness Ranch at dusk
You’ll have lots of chances to pick your hosts’ brains for the gems of ranch lore they are so happy to share, then catch a good night’s sleep and prepare for two days of ranch lifestyle complete with great riding adventures into the Pasquia wilderness. This is a working cattle and farming operation, where your hosts Larry and Corrina Kapeller value an uncomplicated lifestyle, delicious organically-grown foods, and new friends!

Day 3 is a travel day. The highways are well-travelled, but remember: this is your vacation, and you are not zipping along Highway 401 in rush-hour traffic! Take time to explore a little as the landscape transitions from rolling farm and ranch lands to the boreal forest; there are lots of friendly towns and villages en route, and places to enjoy wonderful food and hospitality. You might even want to stop a few miles off your route for lunch at the Snail’s Pace Café at Land of the Loon Resort at the southeast edge of Prince Albert National Park. You will want to arrive at Churchill River Canoe Outfitters’ base camp at Missinipe in time to get settled in, so leave yourself time to cover the 480 kilometres without rushing it!

Ric Driediger is your host for the next four days, each of which is spent exploring a new area by canoe. The evenings are spent in the comfort of a cabin at the Churchill River Canoe Outfitters base in Missinipe, complete with amazing meals and cozy comfort. The first day trip is on Dickens Lake, a small island-filled lake north of Missinipe. You’ll enjoy paddling and exploring the many islands, bays and channels throughout this lake. (If necessary, you will have some time for canoe lessons.)

The second day will be spent on Devil Lake. You’ll spend some time exploring this area, and if you’re up to it, you may try your hand at running some of the rapids leading into the lake. The third and forth days you have the option of going on an overnight canoe trip, travelling through several lakes where you will see centuries-old rock paintings, waterfalls, bald eagles and white pelicans. You may even see moose wading in the shallows, black bears wandering along the shore, and enjoy evening concerts by loons at sunset. The community of Missinipe where you will be staying is a tourism community situated in the heart of the best canoe country in the world, and there is a well stocked store and a restaurant in town. If you like, you can head over to Osprey Wings and watch float planes land and take off, or - you can lie on the beach or just sit on the shore and watch the sun go down!

Good things and good times eventually come to and end, but the hospitality continues. On Day 9, you will be driving back south and checking in for an evening of summer night relaxation in Saskatoon. We call Saskatoon a fast-growing city, but you may consider it a friendly small town; either way, there is great food, a vibrant nightlife, friendly hospitality, and the Hilton Garden Inn is your home away from home!

An outback horse campout experience!

Package ID: CNEC2010-7

Photo of a couple of the free ranging bison at Prince Albert National Park
This is a true North American safari on the Wild West side of Prince Albert National Park. In addition to the free-range bison you will almost certainly see, you may also encounter wolves, elk, moose, deer, bear and countless birds and waterfowl. Learn to live with the land, with the assurance that supper is always waiting for you back at camp!

Spend four days and three nights on the amazing Wild West side of Prince Albert National Park in Saskatchewan. You will see Canada’s only free-ranging herd of plains bison which still lives within its historic range, visit rare fescue prairie grass islands surrounded by dense forest, and enjoy beautiful vistas along several rivers, streams, lakes and valleys.

This very special experience begins when you arrive at Saskatoon’s Diefenbaker Airport, pick up your well-appointed rental car, and check into the Hilton Garden Inn downtown.

The next morning you will take a relaxed drive up Highways 11, 12 and 55. It’s about a three-hour drive, but we suggest you might want to take extra time to make some interesting stops along the way. Among others, the Petrofka Bridge Orchard (near Blaine Lake) and Honeywood Nurseries (near Parkside) are fascinating and unexpected spots to spend at least an hour.

You will arrive at Ness Creek in the late afternoon and meet your horse (and the Sturgeon River Ranch cowboys and cowgirls!) You’ll be spending the night in one of the cozy Ness Creek cabins.

On the next morning, we’ll be heading out to the Sturgeon River Ranch cattle range. Lunch will be provided at Moonlight Lake, there’ll be time for a quick dip in beautiful, sandy Ness Lake, then it’s over to Tie Lake, where we will catch our supper and make camp on the shores of this beautiful northern lake.

On the last day on the trail, we head west to Wasstrom Flats and the rare fescue grasslands then ride north to Sturgeon Lookout, Jonasson Flats, and on to the Sturgeon River Main Ranch on the picturesque Valleyview Trail. We’ll tour the main ranch, finish off with a dip in the hot tub, a nice fire and stories of the trip.
